šŸŽø Discovering My Family Connection to George Harrison

By Karen, Genealogy Uncovered

ā€œWe’re related to one of The Beatles, you knowā€¦ā€

That’s what my dad used to say when I was younger — always with a twinkle in his eye.

As a proud Liverpudlian, he’d drop that line into conversation now and then. And while I smiled along, I always assumed it was just one of those family stories people tell.Fun to believe — but probably a little exaggerated.

Still, something about it stayed with me.

🧬 Following the Clues

When I began researching my family tree — part curiosity, part passion, and part legacy — I remembered Dad’s Beatles tale.

I decided to follow the trail, expecting (at best) a very distant connection. After all, how likely was it to be true?

So I started with what I knew:

  • My dad’s full name

  • His birth records

  • His family roots in Liverpool

Then I worked outward — tracing siblings, parents, and cousins — using public records, census data, and vital certificates.

šŸ•µļøā€ā™€ļø And Then It Happened...

George Harrison was born in Liverpool in 1943.His family wasn’t a mystery — the Harrisons had been in the area for generations.

Piece by piece, I followed both family lines. And then — there it was.

I discovered that my dad and George Harrison were not distant cousins at all...

They were second cousins.

I had to double-check... then triple-check.But the records were clear. The family connection was genuine.

šŸŽ¶ More Than Just a Story

What began as a rumour turned into a real piece of family history.

I couldn’t wait to tell the rest of the family — it gave new life to one of Dad’s favourite sayings. He wasn’t just telling a tall tale...He was telling the truth.

For me, it wasn’t about the celebrity connection — it was about discovering something real behind a memory.Even the most unlikely stories can have deep roots.

🧭 What It Taught Me

This journey reminded me why I love genealogy so much.

It’s not about tracing royal blood or finding fame —It’s about the people who shaped us, the stories we inherit, and the truths waiting to be uncovered.

Everyone’s family tree holds surprises:

  • A local hero

  • A hidden connection

  • A fascinating backstory

  • Maybe even... a Beatle šŸŽø

🌟 Could Your Family Story Be True Too?

You never know what’s waiting in the records.
